| Every October San Francisco hosts "Fleet Week" which is when a bunch of naval ships come in and dock in the bay for a week and provide tours and festivities! Ships include air craft carriers, marine carriers, destroyers, and even a WW2 liberty ship. There is also an air show which featured the Blue Angels, and for those of you who know me and my fantasy to live out Top Gun know that was the highlight of the weekend. Also on display was the air forces new Raptors which were the coolest and loudest fighter jets I have ever seen, those babies don't even need wings, they can fly ballistic completely straight up! Finally there was the Red Bull Air Race which is what I mostly have pictures of. How it works is the planes have to do a couple of laps around the course of inflatable pylons. One color means they have fly through them normally, and the other color means they have to fly through sideways. They also can not fly higher or lower than the color band or else they loose time. I had never seen an air race before and I got to say I am pretty impressed. These guys were going uber fast and even they missed a pylon occasionally, and these are former world class jet fighter pilots. |
